'The Built Environment' by Katie McGoran

September 2022

'The Built Environment' is an exploration of the relationship between power, authority and architecture, contemplating how the architecture in our spatial environment can reflect and reinforce the ideologies of those holding power and how this affects us psychologically. This project showcases buildings symbolic of a wide range of ideologies including state power, corporate power, Monarchy and Church, with images showing MI6 SIS headquarters, the Ministry of Justice Building and Duke of York statue amongst others. 'The Built Environment' is a call to question our surroundings and ask who built our environment and who, in society, does it benefit.
